Lytchett Manor Sports Centre

About Lytchett Manor Sports Centre

Lytchett Manor Sports Centre is a dual-use sports facility situated at Lytchett Minster School. The centre was first established in 1988 and a gymnasium extension was added in 1998. More recently, a multi use games area and cricket nets have been completed to provide a comprehensive range of facilities.

The sports centre provides the focus for many different sporting activities, serving in particular the villages of Upton, Lytchett Matravers and Sandford. There are many clubs that use the sports centre's facilities: these include the Bowmen of Lytchett, Doodlebugs Netball Club, Lytchett Red Triangle Football Club, Lytchett Manor Striders Running Club and Lytchett Manor Short Mat Bowls Club. In recent years, the Dorset Cricket Board have established their academy at Lytchett, Dorset Football Association has carried out much of its coaching education programme and Dorset Short Mat Bowl Association engage in county competitions and matches on a regular basis.

The sports centre does not receive any financial support from the local authority to provide sports and leisure opportunities for the local community and is therefore self-funding. Accordingly, any surplus income at the end of each financial year is used by the centre management committee to improve the facilities for both school and community use.

Sports hall

The superb multi-use sports hall has four badminton courts and is also used extensively for five-a-side football, basketball, volleyball and netball. The sports hall is available for both casual individual and club bookings, although in order to ensure availability most users of this facility tend to be long-term regular bookings.

Fitness suite

The fitness suite comprises sixteen cardiovascular stations including treadmills, rowers and cycles as well as a number of resistance machines. All users must undertake an induction session to familiarise themselves with the use of the equipment and a user card will then be issued to allow future entry to the facility. To book an induction session please telephone the sports centre.

Multi-use sports pitch

This new facility provides a superb surface for hockey, five-a-side football and tennis. There is much demand from local football teams for use of this facility and the Dorset Football Association Girls' Centre of Excellence is based at Lytchett.

Tennis courts

Opened in September 2014, this is one of the newest additions to the excellent facilities at Lytchett. Tennis, netball and five-a-side football can be accommodated here.

The gymnasium is equipped with a specialised sprung floor, which makes it especially suitable for our martial arts groups and gymnastic club. In addition, it is sufficiently large to accommodate four bowls mats and provides the venue for the Lytchett Manor Short Mat Bowls club.

Community room

The community room provides a comfortable setting for members of the public using the sports centre or whilst waiting to meet others. The coffee bar serves drinks and confectionery throughout the evening and can be used by clubs who need to provide catering for visiting teams.
