World Water Day

World Water Day

On the 22nd March every year the United states designates this day to remind  people in the world about water shortages that happen. It has been proven that 20 percent of the worlds population do not have access to safe, clean drinking water. This is a figure of 1.1 billion people without clean water.

In Britain we take our clean water for granted, but do we waste it? For example do you leave the tap running while brushing your teeth, or stay in the shower for hours on end? If we cut back on the amount of water we use it would help to stop world water shortages and would mean that we could help give more to poorer countries like Africa.

There are many people there who walk miles for hours on end to collect dirty contaminated water. People die every day because of diseases in unhygienic water. it’s a fact that every 15 seconds a child dies because of water. It has also been proven that people in rich countries use ten times more water than those in poor countries! I believe that on the next world water day we should all donate together because even the smallest of donations can help to make a big difference.
