School Furniture – Health and Safety

A look into the back problems caused by standard school furniture

Many parents and pupils have concerns about school furniture and how it’s affecting pupils’ backs. It seems that the chairs and the desks are to be blamed.

However, one school has been doing things differently. They have been using a new type of furniture that is adjustable so their backs are straight. Experts say that the chairs encourage the pupils to concentrate, as they can breathe easily and therefore tyre less. It seems that just about everyone was happy with them; the furniture seemed to be doing its job.

The school even has exercises before sitting to stretch the students’ backs and ensure they will have a stress-free period. There were concerns about the chairs having no backs, but after a while the pupils got used to them. Students also liked the idea of having their own personal space, as the new desks come individually. Further studies are being carried out throughout schools like these.

The government are still deciding whether or not to use these tables and chairs all over the country. So is this the way of the future for schools across the United Kingdom?
