Unicef is an organisation that helps children and since 1989 every year, it has a “day for change”. This year it was on Friday 6th February, but schools may have their fundraising day at another date. Where schools raise money for children in need. This year it was for the children of Papua New Guinea. Papua New Guinea is prone to natural disasters and in the last 10 years it has suffered earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, floods, droughts and killer frost that have resulted in many lost lives. 4,000 schools across the UK participated in the event. Schools took part in the “day for change” with fundraising actives including: At the current time the exact money for “day for change” is uncertain but is thought to be around 1.5 million pounds. I interviewed Jane and she said, “ I think it’s a great idea because it gives children in this country an understanding of the problems encountered by children in other countries and gives them a chance to help raise money for them whilst having fun.” Then I interviewed Howard and he said, “ It’s a wonderful idea. Children helping children less fortunate than they are makes them realise just how lucky they are”. |
