Mentoring and Coaching for Professional Development Many colleagues regularly take part in mentor training at Lytchett. This may be to fulfill a role in mentoring ITT and GTP trainees, NQTs, colleagues on Lytchett and national leadership programmes and indeed to mentor our own students. During 2009-2010 we have embarked on a programme of coaching with a view to embedding this as a core element of our professional development offering to all colleagues from September 2010. Over the years we have run various sessions to help colleagues develop their coaching skills. During 2007 all teachers were trained in the development of the basic skills for mentoring by our AST team. This led to the launch of our annual scheme to mentor vulnerable students within Year 11 to support them as they move towards their GCSE exams. In 2008 our Plymouth University visiting tutor, Carol Graham, delivered a series of Twilight sessions intended for those who wished to develop their role as a mentor. The aims of this programme were:

We propose to offer colleagues in the first five years of their teaching career the opportunity to take part in a coaching programme which focuses on everyday pedagogical issues and allows them time to plan in respect to their career development. |
