 How can I get involved?

ITT – INITIAL TEACHER TRAINING

We have worked as a Training School to extend the number of placements available to trainees. We work with Southampton, Exeter and Bath universities and the Open University. We also regularly recruit GTP trainees and work in partnership with DTEP.

Working with ITT trainees provides the opportunity to...

  • work alongside trainees in your subject area/pastoral team
  • mentor a trainee in another subject area
  • develop lesson observation and feedback skills

RESEARCH COMMUNITY

We wish to develop our use of existing research in developing our own policies and practice.  As a professional learning community we can access and benefit from research, avoiding “reinventing the wheel” and building on best practice.

  • Join the Action Research Group 2010 – likely to focus on research skills and development of pedagogy, together with a wish to combine to share the precious work of our Action Research colleagues
  • as an individual undertake research into an area of professional practice.  If you wish, you could write it up and gain accreditation towards an M.A. (Ed) via SWIfT;
  • Access research (university library if registered with SWIfT and various  other websites) to expand your knowledge/thinking and thereby develop new perspectives on practice.

LEADERSHIP

Over the last four years we have designed and run leadership programmes for existing and aspiring managers.  We wish to continue such provision in order to further enhance and develop leadership and management skills, including senior management skills.

  • take part in a training programme to develop your knowledge and skills;
  • contribute to a programme for aspiring managers – subject and pastoral skills;
  • act as a coach for a colleague.

WHOLE STAFF TRAINING

Teams of colleagues (teaching and non-teaching) work together to provide the very best experience for our students.  The national agenda of workforce reform seeks to promote closer working relationships between colleagues with clearly focused roles.  We should continue to develop our practice as we respond to our school improvement plan.

  • identify specific training needs in response to your developing role (individual/team)
  • develop best practice to be modelled across the school;
  • take part in training responding to identified whole staff needs – SIP, foundations for learning, language for learning, Performing Arts;
  • develop induction materials for colleagues in new roles, or new to Lytchett.

INDIVIDUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

We have developed annual performance management processes which enable us all to reflect on our individual development needs relating to school improvement priorities.  Training School Status will encourage us to find further creative responses to individual and team needs.

  • take part in training for subject specific needs
  • take part in training related to your pastoral role
  • take part in training related to your support staff role
  • contribute to local subject networks
