Welcome to GCSEs The curriculum at all Key Stages is designed to provide students with a broad and balanced experience of learning which promotes an enjoyment and commitment to learning leading to excellent progress and achievement and the development of skills for life. In 2007 Ofsted confirmed that “the curriculum in the main school and in the Sixth Form is outstanding. The school offers a very broad and balanced curriculum which has responded to students’ needs and their requests”. The curriculum comprises every aspect of a student’s educational experience within and outside the classroom. It builds on the foundations laid in feeder schools and is committed to adding value to student potential. GCSEs at Lytchett The primary aim is to maximize the progress of all students, whatever their starting point. The Guidance programme uses the prior attainment interests and aptitudes of students to personalise their curriculum plan. It is recognised that every student is an individual and there is a genuine endeavour to meet the differing needs of each student within the context of course viability. All students study English and English Literature, Mathematics, Science, Religious Education and Physical Education. There is also a fortnightly House Period (Pupil Support Programme incorporating Careers, Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship). Students achieving Level 6 or above at KS3 follow a ‘triple’ Science (3 GCSE’s) and Additional (2GCS’s’) and Single Science are also offered. At KS4 an extensive range of extra curricular activities are provided aimed at enriching students’ experiences and to support their personal development. All students undertake a two week period of work experience in Year 10. There is a well established programme of guidance in place to support students’ successful progression into the Sixth Form, Further Education or Work Place Learning (Apprenticeship) recognised as “outstanding” by Ofsted in 2007. “Students make informed choices on their future studies through the highly effective guidance they receive”.
